While retaining the charm of the architectural shell from the beginning of the 20th century, the original, industrial space has been extended with a cutting-edge, modern overlay. Ceiling height amounts to 8. Arch doors in steel-framed glass, custom terrazzo flooring, a modern steel staircase and open access to a private terrace are some of the architectural highlights of the Vipp Chimney House. Two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a large open plan kitchen, dining and living space occupy the m2.
I was encouraged to make it edgy, and with that I wanted to add the personality, comfort and aesthetics of a private residence. I wanted people to feel at home. Keen to book a stay? When I shared the BoConcept Collection with you late last year, I mentioned that the new Amsterdam sofa was one of my favourite pieces. So much so, it has now moved in to our downstairs living space! A beautiful new addition, I decided to make a couple of other changes to the room prior to its arrival, which I've talked through below. Bringing in some additional pieces from BoConcept to style the space, I then teamed up with talented photographer Kirsty Dawn , who captured it beautifully for today's post.
Designed as a second living room and family space, located between our master bedroom the boys' rooms, this area has gone through a few changes since we built, including different paint colours and new flooring.

Wanting to continue down the path of creating a more liveable environment, we decided that a beautiful sofa was exactly was was needed. Compact in size, the room lends itself well to a daybed which we had previously, but in desperate need of more seating, I thought that a chaise lounge style would be the ideal solution.
The Amsterdam sofa , designed by Henrik Pedersen, comes in several configurations comprising a chaise lounge with optional pouf and modules and we were able to choose an option perfect for our space. Taking into account the size of the space and wanting to maximise comfort and usage of the sofa, we decided on the Amsterdam Resting Module , which features an armrest on one side, and an open end on the other.
Luxurious and architectural, I love how the Amsterdam sofa blends clean lines with voluminous cushions, while its contemporary design is juxtaposed with mid-century detailing including bolster cushions and piped seams. We're all extremely impressed with the level of comfort of this sofa, which I first tested out at BoConcept's Auckland showroom.
With a super comfortable mix of hyper soft foam and down, the armrest and backrests come with extra padding to make the sofa comfortable all around.
When it came to choosing the fabric, I couldn't go past the soft tactility and glow of the Velvet. The elegant design of the sofa is enhanced by the luxury of velvet, while still maintaining a modern feel for our contemporary home. It's also durable enough to withstand boisterous kids!

To create a warm and textural backdrop, I decided to paint the walls in a limestone finish. I chose a warm greige colour, Grey Pepper , in the Porter's Interno Limewash finish and couldn't be happier with the result. Everyone who has visited since the sofa's arrival has commented on how beautifully the colour works alongside the grey-green colour of the sofa. The final piece in the puzzle was the installation of some new curtains, which were custom made by The Drape Maker. I chose a warm Taupe colour to blend seamlessly with the walls, and hung them floor to ceiling for a sleek and elegant finish.
They also add another textural element, and the room feels much cosier. To style the space I had fun selecting some pieces from the new BoConcept Accessories collection , which have just arrived in store. Copyright The Design Chaser Powered by Blogger. Linkbar About Categories Shop.click
